today we planted to seeds in flats in an effort to get ready for the cold weather spring crops. We planted a lot of leaks, cabbage, kale, etc.
Hella has been visiting for two weeks, and we have learned a number of different dishes using stuff directly from the garden. First were to soups made from butternut squash and potatoes. Basically, for the first one sauté some onion and fry some bacon in the bottom of the soup. Dice and sauté one large or too medium onions, peel and boil one large potato and one large squash, add chicken bullion and season to taste.
The other one had more or less everything as above minus the bacon. At the very last moment at about one half to three quarters of a cup of port wine. With both of them cream the soup somewhat using the blender
My favorite soup she made was hamburger meat leaks onion mushroom and some heavy cream.. it tasted somewhat like beef stroganoff.
Garden season 2008 is underway!
